Cenospheres are alumina silicate hollow ceramic particles and are also referred to as microspheres, hollow spheres, micro balloons or hollow ceramic microspheres.
Cenospheres are sought after as an inexpensive lightweight filler for use in cementitious and polymer systems.
Their spherical shape gives low binder or water demand and increases fluidity to the mix.
Their composition and low density give good flame resistance and excellent insulation properties.
Extracted from pulverized fuel ash from coal-fired power stations Fillite hollow alumino-silicate cenospheres or microspheres are a versatile lightweight filler with applications in a variety of industrial and commercial products.
The hollow ceramic glass bubble shape of the microsphere results in a variety of uses other than simply being used as a lightweight filler.
Cenospheres are a filler used to replace minerals and resins where the benefits may be as diverse as weight reduction, improved thermal insulation, reduced shrinkage, improved fire resistance or simply easier application.
Cenospheres range from 5-500 microns. A variety of standard grades are available with very accurate particle size top cuts and distribution ranges.
