The Cisco Nexus 5500 platform extends the industry-leading versatility of the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series of purpose-built 10 Gigabit Ethernet data center-class switches and provides innovative advances toward higher-density, lower-latency, multilayer services. Cisco Nexus 5500 platform is well suited for enterprise-class data center server access-layer deployments and smaller-scale, midmarket data center aggregation deployments across a diverse set of physical, virtual, storage access, and unified data center environments. The Cisco Nexus 5500 platform has the hardware capability to support Cisco FabricPath and IETF Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links (TRILL) to build scalable and highly available Layer 2 networks. The Cisco Nexus 5500 platform can be used as a Layer 3 switch through the addition of a routing module, enabling customers to deploy Layer 3 at the access layer.
