AISI 316 Stainless Strip Delivery condition

This steel is only hardened by cold rolling. The modulus of elasticity, E , has a value of approximately 21 0 MPa, which cannot be increased by heat treatment.

AISI 316 Stainless Strip Surface

In the condition +C, strip shall be delivered with a bright surface (2H), or a rough, matt surface

Stainless spring steels Strips are classified as austenitic stainless steel. Due to their good balance of mechanical properties, they are the most widely used type of steel. They can be used in a variety of environments without being plated to prevent rust. In addition, as it is also possible to increase their hardness by rolling, they can be used as spring parts.

In annealed and lightly rolled materials, they exhibit a large degree of elongation, and can withstand complex processing. Springs are used in plenty of applications in the present-day world. Even so, only a few people have a nodding acquaintance with the brass tracks of spring manufacturing and the different qualities needed for various functions. While coiling steel into a spiral of desired length and diameter is the primary and center-most stage of spring fabrication, other treatments during and after the procedure determine the quality of the product that reaches the consumer.

Information to be supplied by the purchaser

The following information shall be supplied by the purchaser at the time of enquiry and order:

a) the quantity to be delivered;

  • the designation of the product form (e.g. strip or cut length);
  • the number of the dimensional standard (EN 10258);
  • the dimensions and tolerances on thickness, width and length according to EN 10258 and, if applicable, letters denoting relevant special tolerances
  • the internal coil diameter according to EN 10258
  • the number of this European Standard (EN 10151);
  • steel name or steel number
  • the delivery condition
  • the type of inspection document in accordance with EN 10204

AISI 316 Stainless Strip Internal soundness

The products shall be free from internal defects that could impair their application to a significant extent. Tests appropriate for an assessment of the internal characteristics may be agreed upon at the time of enquiry and order.

AISI 316 Stainless Strip Delivery form

Strip is usually supplied in coils. Thin strip may be wound on a supporting centre, made of steel, cardboard or other material, in order to avoid the collapse of the centre. Strip may also be supplied as a spool, in order to increase coil weight, whilst minimising coil outside diameter, in the latter case, any welds shall be clearly marked.

Alternatively, strip may be supplied in cut lengths. These may be in a box, or on a pallet, and perhaps strapped together in bundles.

Several coils, or bundles of cut lengths, may be assembled on a carrier.

Unless otherwise agreed at the time of enquiry and order, the choice of delivery form is left to the discretion of the manufacturer.

Unless otherwise agreed at the time of enquiry and order, cold-rolled strip for springs is delivered with the edges. By special agreement, strip can also be supplied with mill edges or with special edges, e.g. machined edges, deburred edges or edges dressed to produce a regular form, usually square or round.

AISI 316 is an austenitic stainless steel that offers a high resistance to corrosion due to the inclusion of Molybdenum within it’s chemical composite. In particular it’s resilience to chloride substances makes it suitable for use within salt water environments. Typically used within the Marine, brewing, pretochemical, pharmaceuticals and Food processing industries, common applications of AISI 316 include but are not limited to; Pressure Vessels, Valves, Flanges and fittings, heat exchangers, condensers, filters etc.

Grade 316 is a popular alloy of stainless steel with a melting range of 2,500 °F – 2,550 °F (1,371 °C – 1,399 °C). As an austenitic stainless steel alloy, it has qualities such as high strength, corrosion resistance, and high concentrations of chromium and nickel.

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics. It is readily brake or roll formed into a variety of parts for applications in the industrial, architectural, and transportation fields. Grade 316 also has outstanding welding characteristics. Post-weld annealing is not required when welding thin sections.

Cold rolled narrow strip of thicknesses up to and including 3 mm in rolled widths fess than 600 mm made from the stainless steel grades. The steels are used in the conditions for the production of springs and spring parts that are exposed to corrosive effects and sometimes slightly increased temperatures.
