Description of Fire extinguishing agent

 

A form of fire suppression system that employs nitrogen gas to put out fires is the IG100 nitrogen fire suppression system, commonly referred to as an inert gas fire suppression system. As an inert gas that prevents burning, nitrogen is suitable for usage in populated spaces.

 

The normal operation of the IG100 system is described as follows:

  • Detection:  An alarm is triggered and the IG100 system is turned on when a fire is discovered, whether it is done so manually or automatically using smoke or heat detectors.
  • Nitrogen Release: Nitrogen gas is released into the protected area via the IG100 system. Through a system of pipes or distribution nozzles, the nitrogen gas is released into the space after being kept in high-pressure cylinders or tanks.

  • Nitrogen Gas Displaces Oxygen: As the nitrogen gas is released, it quickly fills the enclosed space and dilutes the oxygen. The amount of oxygen in the air is decreased to a point where prolonged combustion is impossible, effectively putting out the fire.

  • Fire Extinguishment: The IG100 system eliminates the oxygen that the fire need to burn by lowering the oxygen content. As a result, the fire can no longer maintain itself, which causes it to be put out.

  • Limited Residue: The nitrogen gas utilized in the IG100 system discharges with no residue, which reduces the amount of cleanup and restoration work necessary following a fire occurrence.
