The Purpose of FESTO Solenoid Valve

The primary function of the FESTO solenoid valve is to control the switch of liquid and gas pipelines. It uses a two-position DO control method, which is suitable for the control of small pipelines. On the other hand, electric valves are ideal for analog regulation of medium flow in liquid, gas, and wind system pipelines. These are controlled by AI.

For the control of large valves and air systems, electric valves can also be used as two-position switch controls. However, electromagnetic valves can only be used for switch signals in DO control. They are best for small pipeline control with DN50 and below pipelines, and are rarely used upwards.

Electric valves are more versatile, with the option of having AI feedback signals and control by DO or AO. They are more common in large pipelines and air valves.

Differences Between Electromagnetic and Electric Valves
  1. Electromagnetic valves only function as a switch signal. These are driven by a coil and can only be turned on or off quickly during switching. Meanwhile, electric valves are driven by a motor. It takes some time to simulate opening or closing actions, which can be adjusted.
  2. When comparing working properties, electromagnetic valves have a small flow coefficient and a small working pressure difference. For example, the flow coefficient of a 25 caliber solenoid valve is much smaller than that of a 15 caliber electric ball valve.

The Main Characteristics of FESTO Solenoid Valve

FESTO solenoid valves have the following main characteristics:

  1. External Leakage Blocking: FESTO solenoid valves have easy control of internal leakage and safe use. Internal and external leakage is a safety hazard. Unlike other automatic control valves, electromagnetic valves use electromagnetic force to apply to the iron core sealed in the magnetic isolation sleeve of the electric control valve, without dynamic sealing, so external leakage is easy to block.
  2. Simple System: The electromagnetic valve has a simple structure and low price, making it easier to install and maintain compared to other types of actuators such as control valves. Due to the switch signal control of the solenoid valve, it is very convenient to connect with the industrial computer.
  3. Action Express Delivery: The response time of solenoid valves can be as short as a few milliseconds, and even pilot-operated solenoid valves can be controlled within a few tens of milliseconds. Properly designed solenoid valve coils have low power consumption and are energy-saving products. It can also achieve automatic valve position control by simply triggering the action.
  4. Adjustment Accuracy and Applicable Medium: Electromagnetic valves usually only have two states: on and off, and the valve core can only be in two extreme positions and cannot be continuously adjusted. Therefore, the adjustment accuracy is still limited to a certain extent. Electromagnetic valves have high requirements for the cleanliness of the medium, and media containing particles cannot be used. In addition, viscous media are not suitable, and the viscosity range of the media suitable for specific products is relatively narrow.
  5. Various Models and Wide Range of Uses: Although electromagnetic valves have inherent shortcomings, their advantages are still very prominent. Therefore, they are designed into a variety of products to meet various needs and have a wide range of applications.

Applications:

Applicable power supply

Select AC and DC solenoid valves according to the type of power supply. Generally speaking, AC power supply is convenient to access.

Priority should be given to using AC220V for voltage specifications DC24V.

The fluctuation of power supply voltage is usually selected as+% 10% for AC- 15%, DC is allowed to be around ± 10%. If it exceeds the tolerance, voltage stabilization measures must be taken or special orders must be made.

The rated current and power consumption should be selected based on the power supply capacity. Attention should be paid to the high VA value during AC starting, and indirect solenoid valves should be preferred when the capacity is insufficient.

Applicable environment

The maximum and minimum temperatures of the environment should be selected within the allowable range. If there are any deviations, special orders should be made.

In environments with high relative humidity and water droplets or rain, waterproof solenoid valves should be selected.

Special varieties, such as marine solenoid valves, should be selected for situations where there are frequent vibrations, bumps, and impacts in the environment.

For use in corrosive or explosive environments, priority should be given to selecting corrosion-resistant materials based on safety requirements.

If the environmental space is limited, please choose a multifunctional solenoid valve, as it eliminates the need for bypass and three manual valves and is convenient for online maintenance.

Applicable media:

Choose different types of solenoid valves for gas-liquid or mixed states.

Different specifications of products with different medium temperatures, otherwise the coil will burn out, the sealing components will age, and it will seriously affect the service life. The medium temperature should be selected within the allowable range of the solenoid valve.

The viscosity of the medium is usually below 50cSt. If it exceeds this value and the diameter is less than 15mm, a high viscosity solenoid valve should be selected.

When the cleanliness of the medium is not high, a backwash filter valve should be installed in front of the solenoid valve. If the medium flows in a directional manner and backflow is not allowed.
