Laser is a key component in optical module, injecting current into the semiconductor material and laser come out through the photon oscillation and gain of the resonant cavity. At present, the most common lasers are FP and DFB lasers. They are different in semiconductor materials and resonators structure , and the price of DFB lasers is much higher than FP lasers. Fiber optic transceiver with transmission distance below 40KM generally use FP laser and transmission distance above 40KM using DFB laser.

Laser Used In Optical Transceiver include the below type : FP LD (Fabry-Perot Laser), DFB LD (Distributed-Feedback Laser), VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser), LED (Light-Emitting Diode), EAM LD (Electro-absorption modulated lasers). What’s the difference among them? FP LD and DFB LD are edges glowing but the the resonator structure is different, LED and VCSEL are glowing on the surface but the resonator structure is different, EAM LD ‘s composition include TEC cooler, laser diode, EA modulator, backlight detection diode, and thermistor and so on.
