Basic Use
Our backer rod is an ideal nonabsorbent compressible backup material. It is inserted into a joint to control sealant depth to create a backstop to:
* water resistant, low abrasive, with excellent shock absorption.
* Use in medical, marine, recreational and protective packaging
markets
* Allow proper sealant tooling
* Allow proper sealant wetting of the joint surfaces
* Yield a proper bond breaker between the Backer Rod and sealant
* Function as a temporary seal.
Features
Commonly used in glazing installations, windows and door
applications, expansion joints, curtain wall joints, partitions,
log construction, pavement joints, repairs, pre-cast units and
copings.
Measuring and application
The size of backer rod should be slightly larger (about ½”) than
the width of the crack it’s being used in. Cleaning and/or routing
may be necessary before installation. To install, simply force the
backer rod into the crack or joint, cutting to desired length with
knife or scissors. Proper position of backer rod in crack is about
½” to ¾” below surface.
