3. Introduction

• Four common tests are in safety test: insulation resistance, Hipot, leakage current, grounding resistance.
• Hipot test include AC Hipot and DC Hipot test.
• DC Hipot is similar with insulation resistance test except that the applied voltage is higher during the Hipot test, and the test result is displayed as leakage current. The insulated part of most tested products has distributed capacitor given that most tested products have big insulation resistor. During the DC Hipot test, actual leakage current flowing through the measured product when the scattered capacitor on the tested product is charged. Therefore, the DC Hipot can accurately test the actual leakage current.
• Leakage current includes dynamic leakage current and static leakage current according to the tested equipment working status.
• Static leakage current: Apply 1.06 times voltage to the tested product and measure the leakage current of the phase line and null line to case and ground when the tested product under the non-working state with the power switch on.
• Dynamic leakage current (Leakage current at working temperature): The load shall be supplied through the isolated power supply (isolation transformer), which shall provide 1.15 times rated input power for the electric heating appliance and 1.06 times rated voltage for the electric appliance, respectively measuring the leakage current value of the phase line and null line to the case or ground.
