Heavy duty oilfield fluids process centrifugal pump for drilling fluid system at the oilfield

Oil field fluids by rotating a centrifugal pump for converting kinetic energy to flow of hydraulic fluid to deliver fluid. Typically rotational energy from the engine or an electric motor. Aipu supply pumps are driven from 10HP to 100HP and are very popular in drilling mud processes. Pump size is 3x2,4x3,5x4,6x5,8x6. They perform at different power, voltage, or frequency different.

Oilfield fluids process centrifugal pump widely used in drilling fluid solids control. Centrifugal pump is also referred to as sand pump in China. Centrifugal pumps are widely used in oilfield drilling equipment and drilling mud equipment like shale shakers, desanders desilters, etc.

 

 

Common centrifugal pump applications including water, sewage, petroleum, and petrochemical pumping. The reverse function of the centrifugal pump is a fluid turbine converting potential energy of water pressure into mechanical rotational energy.


Centrifugal pumps are a sub-class of dynamic axisymmetric work-absorbing turbomachinery. Centrifugal pumps are used to transport fluids by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. The rotational energy typically comes from an engine or electric motor. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing), from where it exits
 

How centrifugal pump works

General explanation: Like most pumps, centrifugal pumps convert rotational energy, often from a motor, to energy in a moving fluid. A portion of the energy goes into the kinetic energy of the fluid. Fluid enters axially through the eye of the casing, is caught up in the impeller blades, and is whirled tangentially and radially outward until it leaves through all circumferential parts of the impeller into the diffuser part of the casing. The fluid gains both velocity and pressure while passing through the impeller. The doughnut-shaped diffuser, or scroll, a section of the casing decelerates the flow and further increases the pressure
In the drilling fluid solids control system, centrifugal pumps are used as a transfer pump. Mainly pump drilling fluid to desander hydro cyclone, desilter hydro cyclone. They also are combined together with mud hopper to be jet mud mixer or mud mixing pump. Pumps work as a power transition tool.

 

Centrifugal pump types in solids control


Drilling fluid solids control requests many centrifugal pumps to be fit on mud tanks. According to function, we call centrifugal pumps sand pumps, submersible slurry pumps, shear pumps, charging pumps, etc. They are defined for their different functions, but their working principle is the same


Usually, in drilling fluid solids control there are horizontal centrifugal pumps and vertical centrifugal pumps. The difference is motor installation direction and pump feed inlet position.

Application of centrifugal pump 

 

Drilling mud solids control Centrifugal pumps used in well drilling fluids system are mechanical seal pump. Aipu produces high-quality centrifugal pumps. Centrifugal pump is also called sand pump, as the drilling fluid to be processed contains a large quantity of drilled solid or cuttings.


Trip Pump: The trip pump will sit at the trip tank to transfer mud from the trip tank into the drill hole directly in special conditions. The pump is normally driven by an 11 or 15kw electrical motor with a 4×3 size pump. The mudflow 200 to 250GPM is enough.


Desander & desilter feeding pump: It is normally an 8×6 size pump driven by 55kw motor for 1000GPM mudflow for oil and gas drilling, but a 6×5 or 5×4 size pump with the smaller electrical motor will be used for smaller mudflow capacity for oil & gas drilling, coal bed methane drilling, horizontal directional drilling or water well drilling.


Water pump: The water pump will set on a water tank with a water line supply to the solids control mud tank. A diesel pump may work as a standby in case of fire.


Mixing Pump: The mixing pump normally 8×6 size driven by a 55kw electrical motor to supply mud to the mixing hopper for new mud mixing application.


Charge Pump: 1 or 2 set charge pump will sit beside mud pump for charging application.
