The NT855 diesel engine used in the D85A-18 bulldozer is weak and emits black smoke
Shut down and check, there is no oil leakage in the oil radiator,
and there is no fault in the oil circuit. The engine was
disassembled and inspected, and it was found that there were rust
holes in the cylinder liner, which proved that the oil entered the
water tank from the rust holes. The repair personnel believe that
the failure phenomenon is caused by the large clearance of the
cylinder wall, the too small compression ratio, and the incomplete
combustion of the fuel. After replacing the cylinder liner, piston,
piston pin and piston ring of the engine, when the engine was
re-tested, black smoke was still emitted and the bulldozing was
weak. The test of the injector shows that the fuel injection
pressure is within the standard range and the atomization is good;
no problem is found in the test of the PT pump. The engine was
disassembled and inspected again, and it was found that there were
no problems with the timing and piston rings, but when measuring
the height of the camshaft cam, it was found that its height was
only 2/3 of the standard height. Analysis believes that the height
of the cam is reduced due to wear, so that the piston fails to burn
when it moves to the top dead center position, resulting in a delay
in ignition, making the engine emit black smoke and work powerless.
After replacing the camshaft, the problem was eliminated.

When dismantling and inspecting the engine, it was found that the
connecting rod bolts of the IV cylinder have been stretched a lot.
It is preliminarily concluded that the cause of the failure may be
that the connecting rod bolts are loose, resulting in increased
force and deformation under repeated impact; it may also be that
the connecting rod screw has a quality problem . For this purpose,
other connecting rod bolts were checked, and the results were no
problem, and their tightening torques also met the requirements.
After replacing this connecting rod bolt, the installation and
operation show that everything is normal, and the fault is
eliminated. Later, it was learned that the connecting rod of the IV
cylinder was slightly deformed during the overhaul of the machine,
and the repair personnel carried out the assembly after
self-correction.
Therefore, the real reason for this failure is that the deformation
of the connecting rod will cause the connecting rod bolts to
undergo plastic deformation, resulting in a decrease in its tensile
strength. assembly, resulting in bolt elongation due to reduced
tensile strength.

After the machine was overhauled, it only ran for 1000h before the
tile-holding phenomenon occurred. After dismantling the engine, the
engine oil was first checked. The engine uses Great Wall 15W/40CD
engine oil. Although the viscosity of the engine oil is reduced at
high temperature, it is within the normal value, and the pollution
degree, suspension, pH value, etc. are all qualified; check again.
The oil circuit is also unobstructed and there is no oil leakage.
When the oil pump was dismantled and inspected, it was found that
the gap between the end face of the gear and the front and rear
covers was too large, resulting in internal leakage. Since the
aluminum pump casing cannot be repaired with a grinder, it is
processed with a plane milling machine to make the gap between the
end face of the gear and the front and rear covers reach the
standard value, and then polished with metallographic sandpaper.
After re-installation, there is no internal leakage during the
test, and the work has been normal in subsequent shipments,
indicating that the fault has been eliminated.
The analysis believes that the reason for this failure is that the
engine was overhauled in the spring when the temperature was low,
and the oil viscosity was high at that time, so the oil pump
leakage was small, and the oil pressure could reach the normal
value, so the maintenance personnel ignored the oil pump. During
construction in summer, the continuous operation of the machine at
high temperature reduces the viscosity of the oil, increases the
internal leakage of the oil, and fails to form an effective oil
film, which leads to a tile holding accident.
