Freshwater is typically used to make flake ice, although brine water may also be used in some cases. Flake ice has an irregular shape with diameters ranging from 12mm to 45mm and a thickness between 1.8mm and 2.2mm.

The ice machine is equipped with an automatic microcomputer control system that coordinates the evaporator mechanical operation system and water supply circulation system to ensure safe and efficient operation. This control system is powered by a programmable logic controller (PLC) that enables automatic start and stop functions for the ice machine. The entire system is safeguarded by an intelligent computer control system that provides alerts for water shortages, ice full capacity, abnormal high and low pressures, power phase inversions, and compressor overload. In the event of a system failure, the PLC will automatically stop the unit and illuminate the corresponding alarm indicator. Once the issue has been resolved, the PLC controller will restart the machine automatically, thereby enabling full automation of the control process.
