inside it. When the sheet metal is stretched (twisted), the
internal stress resists the load force, exactly like a normal
stretch spring, but with coefficients close to constant (zero). See

Constant force spring is suitable for large tensile, load does not
increase occasions. In use, ID is usually used to wrap the spring
tightly around the drum, with its free end attached to the load,
like a counterweight. But it can also be done the other way around,
with the free end fixed and the spring itself providing the force,
like the carbon brush in an electrical device.
