Silver as a feature of the contact coating

Advantages
Silver has a unique combination of material properties, such as the highest thermal and electrical conductivity of any metal and relatively low hardness. Both theory and experience show that these characteristics will produce very low contact resistance values between male and female terminals. These properties make it attractive for high-voltage applications.
Silver also has very good solderability, even if the silver is somewhat discolored does not affect its solderability. If the degree of discoloration is too high, more flux may be required. The silver immersion process is widely used as a solderability coating on circuit boards, but its shelf life may be limited if silver is exposed to the environment.

Potential Problems
Silver has some properties that are detrimental to contact performance. Silver does not have the "precious metal" characteristics of gold, and when exposed to a sulfur-containing atmosphere, a thin film of silver sulfide forms on the surface. Silver has a high coefficient of friction (high insertion force) and poor wear characteristics (poor durability). Under certain conditions, silver may also suffer electron migration failure (similar to tin whisker failure).

Silver aluminum alloy plating is widely used in communication equipment, such as diplexers, filters, waveguides and other communication equipment, in order to meet the requirements of electrical flux.
