Properties of silicon carbide:
The industrial production method of silicon carbide is to use
high-quality quartz sand and petroleum coke in a resistance
furnace. The refined silicon carbide blocks are made into products
of various particle sizes by crushing, acid and alkali washing,
magnetic separation and screening or water separation. There are
two basic varieties of silicon carbide, black silicon carbide and
green silicon carbide, which belong to α-SiC.
Silicon carbide has stable chemical properties, high thermal
conductivity, small thermal expansion coefficient and good wear
resistance. In addition to abrasive use, there are many other uses.
For example, silicon carbide powder is coated on the inner wall of
turbine impeller or cylinder block by special process, which can
improve its wear resistance and prolong its service life by 1 ~ 2
times. The advanced refractory material made by it has the
advantages of heat shock resistance, small volume, light weight,
high strength and good energy saving effect. Low grade silicon
carbide ( containing about 85 % SiC ) is an excellent deoxidizer,
which can accelerate the speed of steelmaking, facilitate the
control of chemical composition and improve the quality of steel.
In addition, silicon carbide is also widely used in the production
of electric heating element silicon carbon rod. Silicon is a
semiconductor with high hardness and excellent thermal
conductivity, which can resist oxidation at high temperature.
Silicon carbide has four main application areas, namely :
functional ceramics, advanced refractory materials, abrasives and
metallurgical raw materials. At present, silicon carbide raw
materials can be supplied in large quantities and cannot be counted
as high-tech products. The application of nano-scale silicon
carbide powder with extremely high technical content cannot form
economies of scale in a short time.
