Aluminum castings are used in many industrial applications, such as in the automotive industry. Applications include wheels, cylinder blocks and cylinder heads, pistons, brake cylinders and suspension arms. As automakers continue to look for opportunities to reduce vehicle weight, it is expected that the replacement of aluminum castings with black castings in the automotive sector will continue to grow.

 

Die casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is injected into a hardened steel mold or also known as a die casting mold under considerable pressure. The mold is usually water-cooled. Then open the mold and eject the die casting. Many times, there are thousands of die-cast parts every day, sometimes only a few hundred. Once the die-casting tool is paid, die-casting parts are a very cheap aluminum part manufacturing process.

 

High pressure die casting is the most widely used, accounting for about 50% of all light alloy casting products. Low pressure die castings currently account for about 20% of production, and their use is increasing. Gravity die-casting accounts for the remaining share, but the recently introduced vacuum die-casting and squeeze casting processes have contributed little, but they are growing.

 

Die casting alloys are usually non-ferrous metals, and there are a large number of alloys with a wide range of physical and mechanical properties, which can meet almost all possible applications that designers may require. Aluminum and zinc alloys are the most widely used, followed by magnesium, zinc-aluminum (ZA) alloys, copper, tin and lead.
